Dear Friends,

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, the Irondale Schoolhouse has been able to complete its 10th anniversary in Millerton’s Historic District! It has been a special year of meeting and greeting bikers, families and visitors from all over the world. The Schoolhouse continues to serve the community as a place to tell the history of the importance of one-room education in early rural America. We celebrated our success with a wonderful program of events and activities this year:

In May, we awarded a college scholarship each to two local Webutuck high school graduates. In June, the Country School Association of America’s travelling School Marm, Susan Webb, presented a riveting 1840s-style classroom lesson to 3rd and 4th graders from Salisbury Central School. In July, artist Barbara Asante face-painted passing children as part of the Millerton Business Association’s Summer Stroll. In July, Jackie the Magician entertained in the shade of the tree on the lawn. In August, we offered delicious ice-cream sundaes to visitors, curtesy of Stewart’s Ice Cream. On Halloween Night, we co-hosted a Festival of Frights, with a fantastically decorated Haunted School House and a Trunk or Treat community event. In November, we hosted the Roccanova Wood Crafts show (Grow Against Poverty) which benefited schools in Kenya.

The Irondale Schoolhouse Board thanks you for your loyal support. Please help us to continue the good work. Your tax-deductible gift supports our scholarship program, educational events and activities, building maintenance, and insurances expenses.

Respectively,

Ralph Fedele
President of the Friends of the Irondale Schoolhouse Board.
